CULTURE CARE PRACTICES OF
ELDERLY PUERTO RICANS: AN ETHNONURSING STUDY BY DR. ROSEMARY
FLISZAR '83
Dr.
Fliszar, Assistant Professor of Nursing at Cedar Crest College
conducted a qualitative study to record the health care practices,
expressions, and beliefs, as well as the meaning of care to
elderly Puerto Rican peoples - both male and female - residing
in the
urban community of Allentown. Themes derived from the study
describe the perceptions of the informants related to the caring
and non-caring
behaviors of professional nurses. Dr. Fliszar developed this
information for her dissertation as a PhD candidate at Duquesne,
successfully defending her proposal in June of 2002 to complete
her research.
