The Master’s Degree in Education at Cedar Crest College,
which may include teacher certification, is designed to prepare
prospective and practicing teachers for the challenges of the
21st century classroom. Admission occurs on a rolling basis
throughout the year and is open to men and women who have earned
a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college
or university. Cedar Crest seeks students who have demonstrated
academic and/or professional achievement and promise, as well
as those who would bring varied interests, talents and backgrounds
to the profession.
Prospective students may select one of three concentrations within the master’s degree program: Elementary Education, Secondary Education, or Art of Teaching. Add-on certification is also available in Special Education and ESL.
Since the admissions process is very personal -- each student is considered on an individual basis -- prospective students are encouraged to visit the campus, schedule an admissions interview, and attend an information session. Specific details about the requirements for acceptance into this program are available in a packet of information from the Center for Lifelong Learning at Cedar Crest College.
The general admissions requirements follow…
To complete the application process, students must submit
the application form, official transcripts of all prior
college-level coursework and two letters of academic
recommendation (three letters for Art of Teaching).
Additionally,
students must meet minimum GPA requirements and individuals
seeking certification at the secondary level must also
have completed, or be prepared to complete, the equivalent
of
an undergraduate major in the academic content area they
hope
to teach (English, Spanish, Biology, Chemistry, General
Science, History, Social Studies, Mathematics). Oral
and written
fluency in the English language is expected of all applicants.
We welcome your inquiries and your application. Please call the Center for Lifelong Learning at 610-740-3770 or e-mail lifelong@cedarcrest.edu to request an information packet.
