Honor Societies
Adult students have many opportunities
to be inducted into honor societies at Cedar Crest. Students may be inducted
into Alpha Sigma Lambda, the honor society for adults. Also, there are a number
of honor societies representing different departments and majors.
Alpha Sigma Lambda
- Adult students who exhibit excellence in academic achievement may be
inducted into the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society.
- The society, now
60 years old, is a national honor society. Students must
meet the criteria of the honor society and be matriculated
Cedar Crest students.
- Students are required to complete 24 credits at Cedar Crest. These college
credits must not include transfer credits. All credits must be taken through and
graded at the matriculating institution and must be included in the student's
cumulative GPA.
- At least 12 of the student's total credits should be earned in the Liberal
Arts/Sciences. If the student has not earned twelve Liberal Arts/Sciences
credits within the 24 credits completed at the matriculating institution,
accepted transfer courses may be used to meet this requirement.
- Members shall be selected only from the highest 10% of the class who
have 24 graded credits and are matriculated in an undergraduate program.
- Students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.
Delphi
Delphi is the College
honor society. Students, who at the end of their junior
year or at the end of either term of their senior year, have
a cumulative
grade
point average of 3.80 will be recognized as a member of Delphi.
To be eligible, a transfer student must have earned at least
60 credits of academic work at
Cedar Crest.
Honor Societies
Cedar Crest sponsors chapters of the following national and international
honor societies:
- Alpha Kappa Delta (international - sociology)
- Alpha Mu Gamma (national - foreign languages)
- Alpha Psi Omega (national - drama)
- Beta Beta Beta (national - biology)
- Kappa Delta Pi (national - education)
- Kappa Mu Epsilon (national - mathematics)
- Phi Alpha (national - social work)
- Phi Alpha Theta (international - history)
- Psi Chi (national - psychology)
- Sigma Beta Delta (national - business management and administration)
- Sigma Tau Delta (national - English)
- Sigma Theta Tau (international - nursing)
- Theta Alpha Kappa (national - philosophy and religion)
