CEDAR CREST IS RUNNER-UP AT WILSON TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT
Chambersburg, PA (November 17, 2007) – With a 62-52 loss to the College
of St. Elizabeth, in a hard-fought and physical game that featured a combined 40
fouls, Cedar Crest was forced to settle for the runner-up spot
at the Wilson College Annual Tip-Off Tournament.
In the first half the Falcons played perhaps their
finest basketball in years, effectively stifling the
Eagles' inside game. The two traded leads throughout, with
the margin never exceeding four points until the 3:39
mark, when Cedar Crest closed with a 12-2 run that ended
with a Nicole Parker buzzer-beater to extend the lead to
ten, 32-22.
A fired-up St. Elizabeth began to pick away at the
margin in the second half, assuming the lead for good at
11:33. Cedar Crest remained in contention until fouls
began to take their toll, with starters Keri Lasky and
Kelly Oakes bowing out within seconds of each other and
almost six minutes remaining. Even down two starters, the
Falcons were able to cut the lead to 52-50 on a jumper by
Kelly Cipriani with 3:20 to go, but on the next possession
freshman Leann Wallower committed her fifth, and that was
all she wrote. The Eagles finished on a 10-2 run to seal
the victory at 62-52.
On the positive side for the Falcons, Kelly Oakes
recorded a double-double with 12 points and ten boards,
including shooting a perfect six for six from the line.
Freshman Keri Lasky also scored 12, and Cedar Crest saw
significant production from fellow freshman Lauren Seale
who scored eight. Sarah Campbell pulled down eight boards,
and Leann Wallower finished with seven points.
The Falcons even their record at 1-1 and return home to
play Lancaster Bible College on Tuesday.
