ALVERNIA POSTS WIN OVER CEDAR CREST IN LEAGUE ACTION

Allentown, PA (February 14, 2008) – Four players hit in double-figures to lead Alvernia College to an 83-46 victory over Cedar Crest College in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference action on Thursday evening in Lees Gymnasium. 

The Cedar Crest basketball team, along with over 900 colleges across the country, took part in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association "Think Pink" initiative this evening.  The "Think Pink" initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA's nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

Cedar Crest could not find its rhythm as Alvernia went on a 20-2 run over the first eight minutes of the contest.  The Falcons could not stop Alvernia’s sizzling 60.0 percent field goal shooting in the first half.   

The Falcons came out strong in the second half, as junior Sarah Campbell hit back-to-back shots.  Cedar Crest stayed with Alvernia in the second half, but could just not overcome the first half deficit. 

Freshman Leann Wallower was once again on fire for the Falcons, hitting for 16 points and five boards on the night.  Freshman Kelley Cipriani also hit double-digits with an 11 point effort.  Sophomore Kelly Oakes posted eight points, a game-high nine boards, and four assists in the loss. 

The Crusaders were led by Joanna Graber, who notched a game-high 19 points.  Jill Rosolie had 11 points, while August Reichardt and Alex Velazquez each added 10 points. 

The Falcons fall to 6-17 overall (1-13 PAC) on the season, while Alvernia College improves to 12-12 overall (11-4 PAC)

Cedar Crest will return to action when they travel to PAC foe Neumann College on Saturday, February 16 for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
