CEDAR CREST TENNIS SET TO MAKE PAC CHAMPIONSHIP RUN
Allentown, PA (October 18, 2007) – The record-breaking Cedar Crest College tennis team is gearing up to make its run at the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Championship this Saturday, October 20th at 2:00 p.m. at the Healthplex Sports Club in Springfield, PA.
The Falcons have posted 12 wins this season, which tops an 11-year old school record of nine wins in a season set by the 1996 PAC Championship team. Cedar Crest has also broken the school record for most PAC wins in a season. The Falcons won six PAC games in 1996, 1997, and 2006. The 2007 team boasts seven PAC wins.
Lynn Pigliacampi, who is in her third year of coaching at Cedar Crest, is two wins away from being the all-time winningest coach in school history. Mikki Smith, who coached at Cedar Crest from 1996-1999, holds the current record with 29 career wins. Pigliacampi has turned the program into a two-time playoff contender after inheriting a team which had seven previous losing seasons.
Leading the way for the Falcons this season is sophomore Maria Mallery, who is 9-6 at the No. 1 singles spot. Freshman Alex Kuebler holds the most singles’ wins this season with an 11-4 overall mark at the No. 3 singles slot. Mallery and Kuebler are 11-4 overall at the No. 2 doubles position.
Sophomore Laura Shivley has posted a 7-5 record at No. 2 singles, while sophomore Sara Messner is 8-7 at No. 4 singles. Freshman Sarah Schopf is 8-6 at No. 5 singles and senior Colleen Ford boasts a 10-4 record at the No. 6 singles spot.
Ford and Shivley, who compete at the No. 1 doubles spot, are 6-6 on the season, while Messner and Schopf are 9-4 at No. 3 doubles.
Cedar Crest will play in the PAC Championships this Saturday, October 20 at 2:00 p.m. against the No. 1 seed Cabrini College.
