GRADUATE STUDENT RENEE CRANE FEATURED IN WILKES BARRE TIMES-LEADER
Crane is the total package
Bill Arsenault, Wilkes Barre Times-Leader
Renee Crane (Lake-Lehman) is running with the Cedar Crest College cross country team as a graduate student. And, coach Dan Donohue can talk all day about what the woman has meant to the Falcon program.
“I’ve had the unusual pleasure of coaching Renee for the past five years,” he said. “I say unusual because she suffered an injury that kept her out of competition for her entire junior year.”
Thus, Crane is running this fall as a graduate student - a first for the program.
“Renee was a late arrival to the sport of running,” Donohue said. “She decided to give cross country a try. Until then, the majority of her running experience had been on a treadmill at home.”
Crane has been a three-year captain and has been one of Cedar Crest’s top three runners throughout her career. Recently, Crane posted a personal record 22:31 for a 5K to finish 29th out of 125 runners at the Belmont Classic in Philadelphia. She came back to post the same time to finish 17th in the 5K Classic Against Cancer race in Allentown.
Crane also excels in the classroom. The dean’s list student maintains a 3.97 grade point average and has been a conference all-academic selection every semester. She has earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in education.
“Renee is the total package,” Donohue said. “She is a fierce and driven competitor, an extremely hard worker and imminently coachable. After having Renee on the team for the past five years, it’s going to be very strange to begin the season next fall without her.”
