GWYNEDD-MERCY SQUEEZES BY CEDAR CREST SOFTBALL IN CONFERENCE ACTION

Gwynedd Valley, PA (April 9, 2008) – The Gwynedd-Mercy College softball team narrowly defeated Cedar Crest College in both games of the double-header in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon.   

The Griffins’ posted a 2-1 victory in game one, while earning a 2-0 win in the nightcap. 

Cedar Crest senior Allison Holland held Gwynedd-Mercy scoreless until then bottom of the fourth inning when the Griffins’ knocked in two runs.  Holland posted six strikeouts and walked no batters in game one.  Sophomore Maria Mallery went 2-3 with a double and also posted one RBI to lead the Falcons in game one. 

In game two, Gwynedd-Mercy scored back-to-back runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead.  Holland struck out three batters in six innings of work, allowing only three hits.  Junior Tasha Breiner led the Falcons in game two, going 1-2 from the plate. 

The Falcons fall to 11-9 overall (6-4 PAC), while Gwynedd-Mercy College improves to 12-7 (8-2 PAC) on the season. 

Cedar Crest will host Misericordia University on Friday, April 10 at 3:00 p.m. in conference action.
