HEALTHY U is all set to begin again!
As the new semester gets ready to get underway, HEALTHY U
is all set to begin again! This year, we have added some NEW
programs to enhance your Healthy U experience!
Part of Cedar Crest's nationally-recognized Health Connection
initiative, Healthy U will once again challenge participants
to make healthy lifestyle changes such as eating better, exercising
more, or losing weight. When you sign up for the program,
which runs each semester, you can select from among two different
options to tailor the program to your own needs. Traditional
students, life long learners, staff & faculty may all
participate in Healthy U. It's FREE to all students and just
$20 for faculty and staff (all money collected goes towards
prizes during the contest)!
The program encourages you to earn points which are submitted
on-line each month. Participants may earn points many different
ways, such as by attending educational sessions sponsored
by Healthy U, by burning calories through exercise, by losing
weight (or increasing lean muscle mass), and setting and achieving
goals. There are also points awarded for keeping exercise
or food logs, for eating five servings of fruits and vegetables
in a day, or for drinking eight glasses of water, among other
things. The hope is that when participants are faced with
a choice like "Do I really feel like working out today?" or "Should
I have dessert?" the prospect of earning Healthy U points
will encourage healthy behavior!
Cash prizes are awarded at the end of Healthy U, and a large
number of other prizes are awarded all during the program.
Many are raffle prizes for which participants need only be
present to win. Also, each participant who completes the three-month
program earns a tee-shirt. But obviously the biggest reward
is increased health itself! Many past participants have great
results to show for it.

New! Group Nutrition Coaching
Have trouble staying motivated and on
track from month to month? Here is the solution for you!
We’re now offering weekly nutrition sessions! These
small group sessions are only 20 minutes - easy to fit into
your busy schedule - and will cover a different topic each
week! It will give you a chance to ask any questions and
to check your progress week to week. You can also weigh-in
before or after each session. Available to students, faculty
and staff at two different times.
Tuesday Evenings: 5:45-6:00pm Weigh-in (optional)
6:00-6:20pm Nutrition Topic
6:20-6:30pm Weigh-in and questions (optional)
Wednesday Mornings: 7:45-8:00am Weigh-in
(optional)
8:00-8:20am Nutrition Topic

New! Individual Nutrition Coaching
Are you REALLY motivated to make healthy
changes to your lifestyle? Then get a Personal Nutrition
Coach! A limited number of participants will be offered
a coach, a nutrition expert to analyze your intake and get
you on the right track! Prerequisites apply. Available only
to students this semester.
New! MedGem Analysis
You wouldn’t try and balance your checkbook without
tracking your deposits and withdrawals, so unless you really
know how many calories your body burns, you’ll never
know how to manage your diet for success! A MedGem analysis
will accurately measure your Resting Metabolic Rate - the
number that will take the guesswork out of your calories in/calories
out formula! Participants chosen for INDIVIDUAL Nutrition
Coaching will have a MedGem reading at both the start and
end of the program to measure progress. PLUS, 3 MedGem readings
will be raffled off among all participants who complete Healthy
U and 3 more among those who attend 8 out of the 10 GROUP
Nutrition Counseling sessions!
New! Residence Hall Competition
No extra work on your part - just an
added incentive to motivate your neighbor to get healthy!
Points earned per hall will be tracked and the “Healthiest
Hall” will be recognized at the end of the semester
with a plaque in the Fitness Center!
