CEDAR CREST COLLEGE'S 25th
ANNUAL BIOLOGY OLYMPICS RECOGNIZES OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN BIOLOGY
Twelve Area High Schools To Take Part in Annual Science
Event
Allentown, PA (April 10, 2007) - Local high school students will once again "go for the gold" - in the science lab - on Friday, April 13, 2007 at Cedar Crest College's 25th Annual Biology Olympics. Each year the Biology Olympics challenge high school students to demonstrate their knowledge of biology while simultaneously encouraging interest in all the sciences.
The Biology Olympics is once again receiving support from some of the biggest names in the business of science and education. Companies like Hewlett Packard, Promega, Sigma-Aldrich and McGraw-Hill have made special donations, including microscopes, digital cameras, stop watches, clock radios and biology dictionaries, for the teachers and students participating this year.
The day-long competition features group and individual events for nine area high school teams. Students will face off in a Biology Bowl, patterned after the popular College Bowl question and answer format. Participants also get the chance to use their critical thinking skills in an experimental design competition. Other events include trivia contests, scavenger hunts and individual events in ecology, genetics, botany, zoology and human anatomy and physiology. The day ends with an awards ceremony honoring the top scoring schools.
The Biology Olympics at Cedar Crest College will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with most activities taking place in the Science Center and the Alumnae Hall Auditorium. The scavenger hunt will take place on the College's Quadrangle.
The Biology Olympics at Cedar Crest is one of many events at Cedar Crest designed to encourage middle school and high school students to excel in math and science.
