CEDAR CREST NURSING STUDENTS AND FACULTY MAKE A DIFFERENCE AT BI-ANNUAL COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY
Some Students will Volunteer at Lehigh Valley Hospital's Brand New Patient Care Tower
Allentown, PA (January 11, 2008) - More than 150 students and faculty from Cedar Crest College's nursing program will volunteer their time and energy to make a difference in the lives of Lehigh Valley residents for the Bi-annual Community Service Day on Monday, January 14, 2008.
Members of the Nursing Department will lend a helping hand at eight Lehigh Valley agencies including homeless shelters, hospitals and elder care facilities. Students and faculty will participate in a variety of activities including administrative assistance, cleaning and painting.
One group of nursing students will have the opportunity to help Lehigh Valley Hospital staff as they continue to move into and set up the brand new Kasych Family Pavilion. Students will assist with moving patients into the new patient care tower, as well as preparing the vacated space for a planned renovation process.
Fully accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Cedar Crest's nursing program provides a solid foundation in nursing practice. Community Service Day underscores the nursing department's commitment to compassion and service to those in need, an important element of the nursing program's philosophy, as well as a standard of the nursing profession in general.
Community Service Day also highlights the College's commitment to incorporating community service into programs of study. It is used as an outside-the-classroom learning experience for students and provides faculty with the opportunity to work with the students on a personal level as they accomplish a goal together. Last year, Cedar Crest students performed more than 24,600 hours of community service in the greater Lehigh Valley.
A list of volunteer sites, times and activities follows. Please call the College Relations office if you are interested in covering any of the events as some volunteer sites have confidentiality restrictions. For more information, call the College Relations Office at 610.740.3790.
