The Rodale Aquatic Center promotes civic health and wellness to our community through a variety of quality aquatic programming. Our swim school follows the American Red Cross nationally recognized standards of Learn-to-Swim programming using additional tools to aid in progression development. Private, semiprivate and group classes are offered to
swimmers of all ages and abilities. Classes focus on improving swimming skills and include first aid and basic water safety introduction.

SWIM SCHOOL POLICIES & PROCEDURES

• Classes must have a minimum enrollment of 50% to be held.

• The Rodale Aquatic Center may combine levels to form classes due to lack of enrollment.

• There will be no enrollments during the first week of any session.

• Make-up classes will only be scheduled for inclement weather and Rodale Aquatic Center cancellations. Under special circumstances, a Practice Session (with specific applicable times) may be offered for a missed class.

• A parent/guardian must accompany children under the age of 16 into the facility and remain in the facility with the children. If the child cannot pass the band test given by the lifeguards (swimming one length of the competition pool and treading water for one minute), a parent or guardian must accompany the child in the water in the competition or fitness pool during any practice times. There will be no fee charged to the parent or guardian but they must complete a Waiver and Agreement to Participate form.

• Shoulder length hair must be cared for in a ponytail or a swim cap to gain entrance into the pool.

• Water shoes will not be permitted during swimming classes.

• Children must wait for their name to be called by their instructor before entering the pool area.

• Parents/guardians are not permitted on the pool deck during swim classes. They should remain in the lobby/viewing area.

• No street shoes or strollers in the pool area.

• Facemasks that enclose the nose are not permitted for use as goggles.

• Children of the opposite sex, over the age of 5 are not permitted in either of the men’s or women’s locker rooms. Please make use of the family changing rooms or curtain areas.

• No chewing gum.

• Band-aids must be removed prior to entering the pool.

• Children may not swim with open sores, contagious skin conditions or diarrhea.

• Only approved swim diapers are permitted in the pool.

• Only US Coastguard Approved flotation devices are permitted in the RAC pools. No floaties, swimmies, inner tubes or swimsuits with flotation are permitted.

• The fitness/teaching pool is closed to swimmers who are not enrolled in the respective class while a class is being held. Check the pool schedule for open swim times in the fitness/teaching pool as well as the competition pool.

• It should not be expected to have your child advance from a particular level in one 7-week session.

• Due to program scheduling, it would be advantageous to schedule an appointment with your child's instructor if you should have any questions regarding the class.

• Should you have any additional questions regarding swim school, we offer parent orientations throughout the year. Please call for dates.

• Occasionally our instructors will have to miss a class. All RAC swim school instructors are trained under the same swim lesson guidelines to ensure proper class curriculums are followed in the event of an instructor’s absence.

• Due to the increased number of classes that we offer, we cannot guarantee any requests for a particular instructor.

GROUP CLASSES

Children must be 3.5 years old to participate in group classes and should be able to SIT, LISTEN and WAIT their turn. In order to preserve the safety of the group, we are unable to accommodate children who disobey the instructor, cannot wait their turn or enter the water without permission. Children unable to sit listen and wait after the first week of class will be asked to withdraw from group lessons and enroll in private, semiprivate or parent/child lessons. Please see Specialty Classes.

RAC swim school class level 1-3 serves as a RAC teaching academy, introducing young volunteers and interested participants to aquatic instruction and there by igniting the proverbial torch for future instructors. We feel that the students will continue to be engaged and enlightened by the experience, and the learning potential will increase across the progression.
