Cedar Crest College Named "Top Regional College" and "Best Value" by U.S. News and World Report
For the third consecutive year, U.S. News and World Report ranked Cedar Crest College in the "best value" and "top regional college" category for the rankings of northern colleges. The 2014 report places Cedar Crest College third for value and fifteenth overall among north regional colleges.
“One of the things that I’ve always loved about the "best value" ranking is that it tries to assess quality with the school’s ability to make quality affordable,” said Cedar Crest College President, Carmen Twillie Ambar. “That’s what I think Cedar Crest College is about. How do you provide a quality academic experience at an affordable cost? If there’s any designation that I’m the most proud of, it’s that one because we really believe in access and opportunity here. This is about making sure that everyone who wants a college education has an opportunity to pursue it.”
U.S. News and World Report is not the first to recognize Cedar Crest as a top college or for achieving a high return on investment for students. Cedar Crest was recently placed on Forbes’ top colleges list and was also ranked 19 on Affordable Colleges Online’s (AC Online) list of top women’s colleges in the U.S. with high returns on investment. Additionally, AC Online ranked Cedar Crest 66 out of 402 schools on their list of colleges with high returns on investment in Pennsylvania. AC Online analyzed data from several federal and non-profit organizations that track higher-education statistics and data from Payscale.com’s 2013 College Earnings Report to determine which 4 year, degree-granting institutions show consistent payoffs in the workplace.
“What is distinctive about Cedar Crest is that we try to infuse our mission in all of the things that we do, from our financial aid policy, to our ability to help students in all spectrums of the economic range to pursue their education,” said Ambar. “Our mission gets translated into how we offer study abroad opportunities and internships. What it says when you are consistently in the rankings, and it is not a one-time thing, is that you are about your mission. That is why you are there consistently. You are proving that this is where you are dedicated. This is what you care about. This is what is important to you.”
