Brielle Anne Wesley '14 Organizing Traditions and Cultures Cake Show

Senior Communications New Media major Brielle Anne Wesley is organizing Cedar Crest College: Traditions and Cultures Cake Show, a fundraiser for No Kid Hungry: Share Our Strength. The event will be the senior thesis project for Wesley’s major.

Over the past year, Wesley has begun learning different techniques on how to decorate cakes and wanted to come up with a way to include her passion with baking and cake decorating with her passion of helping others.

So, through the use of social media, marketing, and advertising techniques learned throughout her four years here at Cedar Crest, Wesley intends to raise money to reach her $150.00 goal to donate to No Kid Hungry: Share Our Strength.

The No Kid Hungry campaign connects kids in need with nutritious food and teaches their families how to cook healthy, affordable meals. The campaign also engages the public to make ending childhood hunger a national priority. No Kid Hungry also attempts to end childhood hunger by connecting kids to effective nutrition programs like school breakfast and summer meals.

“I don’t want to just raise funds for No Kid Hungry, but also raise awareness of childhood hunger not just throughout the United States, but throughout the east coast specifically,” said Wesley. “In Pennsylvania alone 20% of children struggle with hunger and even though all of them are eligible for free or reduced price school lunch, too many are missing out.”

Through the generosity of the Bittersweet Bakery, Amy’s Sweets and Treats, and Blondies Cupcakes, all of which are local bakeries, Cedar Crest students, faculty, and staff, and the surrounding community Wesley’s main goal is to raise awareness of childhood hunger is becoming that much closer.
