Living Learning Communities

In a Living Learning Community (LLC) at Cedar Crest College, you can enjoy a fuller, deeper learning experience by living in a residence hall with other students who share similar interests.

The mission of Living Learning Communities at Cedar Crest College is to integrate curricular and co-curricular experiences to foster characteristics of women’s leadership, civic engagement, and global connectivity. Living Learning Communities cultivate interactions among students, faculty, and staff by building a community of scholars who share common interests.

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of global studies, two of Cedar Crest’s LLC have a strong tie to this academic area. Each one provides tremendous opportunities for students majoring or minoring in global studies.

The Global Social Justice LLC

The Global Social Justice LLC at Cedar Crest College is dedicated to helping students explore their own values in the context of individual responsibility to local, regional and global communities. Consistent with the mission of the College, this LLC seeks to provide students with a liberal arts perspective that is committed to preparing students to become leaders who will strive to alleviate social oppression through advocacy for social justice. Students from all majors may apply to participate in this living learning community.

The Global Social Justice LLC program consists of two courses: LLC 200 and LLC 201, which are taken in the fall and spring semesters, respectively. In these courses, students will engage in activities that promote global awareness of human rights violations and a basic understanding or resources that exist to combat human suffering.

The Environmental Stewardship LLC

The Environmental Stewardship LLC gives students the opportunity to explore the concept of environmental stewardship, focusing on our relationship with and responsibilities towards nature, while including environmental justice as part of a broad concept of environmental stewardship. It will also increase the students’ awareness of local and global ecological environmental issues. Students will be empowered by leadership opportunities to develop the skills and techniques to address environmental and environment-justice issues in their local community and the global community.
