School Nurse Certificate
An applicant to the school nurse certification program must be an RN licensed to practice with one year of professional experience and a baccalaureate degree in nursing. A GPA of 2.5 is required for admission and progression in the program.
Course Requirements
Pre-requisite requirements:
- EDU 359/559 Teaching the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Student - 3 credits
- EDU 550 Educational Planning 3 credits
- PSY 250 Life-Span Development 3 credits
- SPE 243 The Exceptional Child - 3 credits
- SPE 320/520 Teaching Students with Learning Disabilities - 3 credits
Core courses:
- SNC 380 Methodology in School Health Services 3 credits
- SNC 381 School Nurse Practicum 5 credits
Requirements for PA Certification:
- 2 college level Math courses
- 1 college level writing course
- 1 college level literature course
Clinical Requirements
All students must provide proof of RN licensure from the state in which they will complete their practicum and to which they are applying for certification. Students must also submit the following requirements:
- Completed health forms with lab work attached; and
- A FBI criminal history clearance; and
- A child abuse history clearance; and
- A PA criminal history clearance; and
- CPR certification – Must be one of the following: American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer OR American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers; and
- Proof of health insurance
