School Nurse Certificate
An applicant to the school nurse certification program must be an RN licensed to practice with one year of professional experience and a baccalaureate degree in nursing. A GPA of 2.5 is required for admission and progression in the program.
Course Requirements
Pre-requisite requirements:
- EDU 150 Educational Planning 3 credits
- EDU 359 Teaching the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Student - 3 credits
- PSY 250 Life-Span Development 3 credits
- SPE 243 The Exceptional Child - 3 credits
- SPE 320 Teaching Students with Learning Disabilities - 3 credits
Core courses:
- SNC 380 Methodology in School Health Services 3 credits
- SNC 381 School Nurse Practicum 5 credits
Requirements for PA Certification:
- 2 college level Math courses
- 1 college level writing course
- 1 college level literature course
Clinical Requirements
All students must provide proof of RN licensure from the state of Pennsylvania. Students must also submit the following requirements:
- Completed health forms with lab work attached; and
- A clear FBI criminal history clearance; and
- A clear child abuse history clearance; and
- A clear PA criminal history clearance; and
- CPR certification – Must be one of the following: American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer OR American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers; and
- Proof of health insurance
