Professor Robin Gerchman Performs at the Ice House
In February, Cedar Crest College Professor of Dance Robin Gerchman performed an original piece titled "Ascent" with DanceLink, a local dance company, as part of the "Ice House Presents" series. "Ascent", is an evening-length dance set to Meredith Monk's "Songs of Ascension," which features a series of vignettes that combine to create "a moving meditation on spirituality."
Sarah Carlson, director of DanceLink, asked Gerchman to join a talented group of local dancers to create the piece. Gerchman was delighted by the experience.
"The Bethlehem Ice House is such a great venue, " Gerchman said. "Very raw, organic environment which was a perfect fit for the nature of the work. It was a successful evening; the audience was very receptive and anxious to engage in conversations post-show about the theme."
Despite her busy schedule, Gerchman continues to perform.
"It's challenging to commit to long-term projects, given my schedule and responsibilities [at Cedar Crest]," she said, "so any opportunity that presents itself that doesn't require me to be away for a length of time works out great!"
Gerchman recently performed with the interdisciplinary dance group LoVid at an impromptu event outside New York City's financial district, and has worked with Mark O'Maley, creator of interdisciplinary projects with dance and film.
