Dance Scholarship Audition
The on-campus audition is held at Cedar Crest College’s Steinbright Dance Studio. The audition consists of a ballet barre and center floor work in addition to a movement phrase in modern or jazz. The student should come prepared with solo choreography and will be interviewed by a faculty member prior to their demonstration.
Scholarship Audition Criteria
- Prior training and the ability to demonstrate a knowledge of technique
- Talent and potential
- A healthy body that is injury free
Tights and a leotard. Ballet slippers, jazz shoes and shoes that are necessary for the solo composition. Hair neatly secured and no jewelry. Since ballet slippers are required for the audition and the movement phrases may be in modern, tights should be easily adjustable (stirrup or convertible).
Audition registration is done through the Admissions Office. Pre-registration is required. On the day of the audition, please plan to arrive promptly and register with the representative from the Admissions Office.
All dancers auditioning should be prepared to present a solo. Choreography should be no longer than 3 minutes in length and choreographed by the student or a studio instructor. Music should be on a CD or cassette and should contain only the solo music. A sound system will be supplied. Costumes are not necessary for the audition. However, the student is welcome to change from class attire to other leotard/tights or unitard if time permits.
The Admissions Office will notify all those who auditioned of scholarship status. Students that are granted a dance scholarship are required to participate in 3 credits of dance (technique, theory, or company) per semester.
