Clubs & Honor Societies
Become an agent for social change and social justice as you study : Our honor society and Social Work club both offer numerous opportunities each year for you to make a real difference in the lives of others.
Social Work Club
This club—advised by Kathleen Boland, professor of social work— welcomes all students who are interested in current social issues and policies. Each year, club members collaborate on up to five community service projects. Past activities have included:
- Organizing fundraising events
- Participated in NASW Advocacy Day
- Participating in Alzheimer’s Walk
- Participating in Leukemia/Lymphoma Walk
- Providing personal “kits” for women in a domestic violence shelter
- Organized alumnae panel of Social Workers employed in the field
Phi Alpha Honor Society
Every year, the social work department at Cedar Crest is proud to induct many of our students into the Phi Alpha Honor Society, a national honor society for social work. Professor Suzanne Weaver serves as faculty adviser to this honor society. In order to become a member of Phi Alpha, you must:
- Declare social work as your major
- Be a junior or senior
- Complete 9 semester hours of required social work courses
- Achieve an overall GPA of 3.0
- Achieve a GPA of 3.250 or above in required social work courses
