FALCONS WIN 52-47 NAIL-BITER AT CENTENNIAL CONFERENCE FOE BRYN MAWR
Bryn Mawr, PA (January 17, 2009) – Down by 17 midway through
the first half and by 11 at halftime, the never-say-die Falcons gritted their
teeth and outscored the host Owls of Bryn Mawr College 34-18 in the second half
to escape with a 52-47 win.
Cedar Crest junior Lakeema Jones (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) led all scorers
with 17 points, while freshman Lizzy Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin)
had a big second half with 11 points and 11 boards in the non-conference matchup.
After some halftime adjustments, the Falcons began to slowly chip away at Bryn
Mawr's lead. A clutch three-pointer by Lauren Seale (Wilmington, DE/Wilmington
Christian) finally tied the score at 45-45 with just over 6:00 to play, then a
free throw by Jones at the 2:40 mark gave Cedar Crest the lead. It remained a
tenuous three-point game until a nice driving layup by Seale with :39 remaining
put the game away.
Cedar Crest shot 54.2 percent from the field in the second half, a marked
improvement from just 23.5 in the opening period.
Junior Kelly Oakes (Wilmington, DE/Delcastle Tech) had 10 points and nine
boards, and Seale had four assists.
Leading the Owls was Emilie Naccarato with 16 points, three assists, and three
rebounds. Lindsey Darvin had 12 points and Jessica Allen had a double-double
with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Caroline Heffernan led all rebounders with 13.
Cedar Crest is now 6-6 overall (2-3 CSAC). The Falcons will host Colonial States
rival Marywood on Monday, January 19 at 7:00 p.m.
