OAKES NAMED TO CSAC BASKETBALL HONOR ROLL OF THE WEEK
Aston, PA (February 2, 2008) – Junior Kelly Oakes (Wilmington, DE/Delcastle) was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference women’s basketball Honor Roll for her outstanding play in the week ending February 2.
Oakes played the game of her life scoring a career-high 33 points and grabbed 21 rebounds to lead Cedar Crest to pull its biggest upset in school history in a thrilling 111-104 overtime victory over league-leader Centenary College in CSAC action on Thursday.
Oakes scored eight points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a 69-32 victory over Valley Forge Christian College, while also leading Cedar Crest with 14 points in a 69-53 loss to top-ranked Cabrini College on Saturday afternoon.
This marks the fourth time this season that Cedar Crest has had a basketball player recognized by the CSAC. Freshman Elizabeth Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin) was named the Player of the Week in the weeks ending November 17th and January 19th and sophomore Lakeema Jones (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) was named the Player of the week for the week ending January 26th.
Cedar Crest is currently 9-8 overall (4-5 CSAC) on the season. The Falcons will host CSAC opponent Baptist Bible College on Thursday, February 5th at 7:00 p.m. This game also marks Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day and National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Senior field hockey player Heather Gallagher will be honored before the start of the contest.
