FIVE PLAYERS IN DOUBLE FIGURES HELPS CEDAR CREST COLLEGE BASKETBALL WIN FALCON CLASSIC TIP-OFF OVER EASTERN UNIVERSITY
Allentown, PA (November 16, 2008) – Five players from Cedar Crest College scored in double figures to lead the Falcons to an 83-75 victory over Eastern University in the First Annual Falcon Classic Tip-off on Sunday afternoon in Lees Gymnasium.
Freshman Elizabeth Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin) once again stunned the crowd, posting her first double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds to lead Cedar Crest. Sophomore Kelly Oakes (Wilmington, DE/Delcastle) also notched her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 boards. She also added a game-high six assists in the win.
Sophomore Keri Lasky (Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon) scored a team-high 20 points, going a perfect 12-12 from the free throw line, while sophomore Lauren Seale (Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Christian) added 15 points and sophomore Lakeema Jones (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) chipped in with 12 points.
Bekah Roland led Eastern University with a game-high 28 points.
Cedar Crest shot a sizzling 81.8 percent from the free throw line, going 36-44, from the charity stripe.
Sunderhaus was named the tournament MVP after scoring 31 points and making seven steals in yesterday’s win over Lancaster Bible College and her outstanding performance in the championship game. Other members of the All-tournament team were: Oakes, Bekah Roland (Eastern), Kelly Long (LBC), and Ashley Cimmino (Bay Path).
Cedar Crest improves to 2-0 on the season, while Eastern University falls to 1-1 overall. Bay Path College defeated Lancaster Bible College, 57-56, in the consolation game played at 1:00 p.m.
