CEDAR CREST DROPS FINAL REGULAR SEASON GAME TO BAPTIST BIBLE IN CSAC PLAY
Clarks Summit, PA (February 19, 2009) – The Cedar Crest College basketball team dropped its final game of the 2008-2009 regular season, 73-72 to Baptist Bible College in Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Thursday evening at Huckaby Court in the Phelps Center.
Cedar Crest, now 13-11 overall and 8-8 in the CSAC, posted more conference victories this season than in the last nine seasons combined. Baptist Bible finished the season at 10-14 overall and 7-9 in the CSAC.
Junior Kelly Oakes (Wilmington, DE/Delcastle) posted her 11th double-double of the season with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. She shot an impressive 7-of-14 from the field. Junior Lakeema Jones (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) added 15 points, seven boards, and four assists.
Sophomore Lauren Seale (Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Christian) scored 14 points, while freshman Lizzy Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin) added a game-high 16 boards and eight points.
After controlling the majority of the first half, Baptist Bible held a 32-29 lead after the first period. The lead would change 11 times over the second half of the contest, but poor foul shooting and several questionable calls in the final minutes sealed Cedar Crest’s fate.
Heather Dodd led Baptist Bible with a game-high 19 points, while Naomi Sweeny added a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Defenders.
Cedar Crest learns its post-season destiny when the CSAC regular season wraps up on Saturday.
