JONES LEADS CEDAR CREST COLLEGE BASKETBALL OVER ARCADIA UNIVERSITY IN NON-LEAGUE PLAY
Allentown, PA (December 6, 2008) – Sophomore Lakeema Jones (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) scored a game-high 16 points to lead Cedar Crest College to a 71-62 win over Arcadia University in a non-conference matchup in Lees Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Liz Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Baden) added her second double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Senior Sarah Campbell (Plainfield, IL/Notre Dame HS) came off the bench to score a season-high 12 points and added seven boards, while sophomore Keri Lasky (Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon) posted 15 points and four assists in the win.
The Falcons set the tempo early, going on a 5-0 run to open the contest off of a layup and back-to-back free throws by sophomore Leann Wallower (Havertown, PA/Haverford).
Cedar Crest held the lead for the remainder of the first half until the 4:30 mark when the Knights’ Shannon Bustin hit a three-pointer to take a 29-27 lead. The lead would change three more times over the final minutes of the first half, but Cedar Crest’s Jones nailed a three-point play to give the Falcons a 37-35 lead.
The Falcons held the lead for the entire second half, even taking as much as an 11 point lead on a jumper by Lasky to give Cedar Crest a 67-56 lead.
Caitlin Sparks posted a team-high 14 points to lead Arcadia.
Cedar Crest improves to 3-3 overall on the season, while Arcadia falls to 1-4 overall. The Falcons will travel to Key Largo, Florida over the first week of January to play in the Key Largo Classic. They will take on St. Joseph’s of Maine on January 3rd at 5:00 p.m. in the opening round.
