FIELD HOCKEY DROPS OVERTIME HEARTBREAKER TO WELLS
Allentown, PA (August 30, 2008) – Despite holding a 15-4 advantage in penalty corners and an 11-5 shot advantage, the Cedar Crest College field hockey team dropped a 1-0 overtime heartbreaker to Wells College in non-conference action on Saturday morning.
The Falcons had the chance to win at the end of regulation when they were awarded five-straight penalty corners, but could not put the ball in the cage.
Cedar Crest once again had the chance to win in overtime with a breakaway by freshman Emily Seifert. Seifert was taken out by the Wells goalkeeper and awarded another penalty corner, but the Falcons could not convert.
Paige Cornby scored the overtime game-winner at the 79:15 mark to give Wells the victory.
Cedar Crest goalie Rachel Orlen made four saves on the day, while defender Brittany Fikes made several key stops for the Falcons.
Wells improves to 1-0 on the season, while Cedar Crest falls to 0-1.
Cedar Crest will travel to Bryn Mawr College on Thursday, September 4th at 4:30 p.m. for a non-conference game.
