CEDAR CREST FIELD HOCKEY DEFEATS HOOD AFTER TWO OVERTIMES AND PENALTY STROKES


Allentown, PA (September 20, 2008) – The Cedar Crest College field hockey ended an unbelievable double-overtime game with a win over Hood College when senior Heather Gallagher and sophomore Eryn Ziegler each nailed a penalty stroke to win the contest in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

After two 15 minute overtime periods, the Cedar Crest field hockey team pulled together to win the game in a penalty stroke-off.  Junior Rachel Orlen made four key saves in the cage for the Falcons, not allowing Hood to score on any of their attempts.  Gallagher and Ziegler hit their strokes to win the game for Cedar Crest.

Sophomore Jessica Sanchez  scored the lone goal for the Falcons with 25:12 remaining in the second half to put Cedar Crest up, 1-0. 

Hood’s Samantha Liptrap tied the contest, 1-1, with just over four minutes remaining in the game to send it into overtime.

Freshmen Tara Fikes and Emily Seifert and junior Brittany Fikes made several key defensive stops in the overtime periods to help hold Hood scoreless.

The Blazers held a 15-13 shot advantage, while Cedar Crest posted a 16-10 advantage in penalty corners. 

Cedar Crest improves to 2-4 overall, while Hood falls to 1-3 on the season.

Cedar Crest will travel to Philadelphia Biblical University on Wednesday, September 24 at 4:30 p.m. in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.
