CEDAR CREST LACROSSE WINS DOUBLE-OVERTIME THRILLER OVER MARYWOOD
Allentown, PA (March 27, 2008) – Sophomore Bailey Bedell took a pass from junior Thersia Ault to score the game-winner in double-overtime as the Cedar Crest College lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season with an 11-10 victory over Marywood University in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference action on Thursday afternoon.
Marywood scored first just 1:13 into the contest before Bedell and sophomore Amanda Dombroski scored back-to-back goals to give the Falcons the 2-1 lead. The Pacers would tally three more goals until senior Bri Adam scored with two seconds remaining in the half to cut Marywood’s lead, 4-3.
The Pacers scored immediately in the second half to take a 5-3 advantage before Bedell and sophomore Jesenia Holguin each scored to tie the game, 5-5, at the 22:42 mark. Marywood took a 6-5 lead at 21:25, until Adam scored on a free position shot at the 17:46 mark, tying the game once again. Sophomore Mackenzie Lee then posted her first goal of the season at 16:39 before Adam scored two more times to give Cedar Crest a 9-6 lead. Marywood responded with three unanswered goals to end the second half tied, 9-9.
Adam scored a goal for the Falcons with 1:10 remaining in the first overtime period, but Marywood’s Laura Gierman matched that goal with just 25 seconds remaining.
Bedell nailed the game-winner just nine seconds into the second overtime period.
Adam led the Falcons with five goals, while Bedell added three goals. Sophomore Kelly Oakes added three assists on the day.
Marywood was led by Alanna Waldron and Gierman who posted three goals each for the Pacers.
The Falcons improve to 1-5 on the season, while Marywood falls to 0-3.
The Falcons will host Alvernia College on Saturday, March 29 at 12:00 noon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference action.
