CEDAR CREST COLLEGE SOCCER DROPS OVERTIME THRILLER TO PSU-ABINGTON

Allentown, PA (September 13, 2008) – Sophomores Tiffany Britt and Tatiana Ballreich each tallied two goals, but it would not be enough as the Cedar Crest College soccer team dropped a 5-4 overtime thriller to Penn State Abington on Saturday afternoon.

PSU’s Samantha McGovern opened the scoring of the day with a goal just 1:02 into the contest.  Britt answered immediately with an unassisted score at the 6:33 mark.  Ballreich added another goal for the Falcons just after the 10 minute mark to give Cedar Crest the 2-1 lead.  PSU’s Jenna McCormack tied the game at two apiece, which would remain the score until halftime.

Britt took a pass from junior Brittany Clouser and put the Falcons up early in the second half with her second goal of the day to make the score, 3-2.  McGovern would add back-to-back goals to give PSU the 4-3 advantage with 25 minutes remaining in the game.  Ballreich would tie the score once again on a breakaway with 10 minutes left in the game to send the contest into overtime.

McCormack scored the game-winner 6:18 into the overtime period.

Cedar Crest held a 14-10 advantage in shots, while freshman April Johnson made six saves in the net for the Falcons.

Cedar Crest falls to 0-4 overall on the season, but will travel to Baptist Bible College on Thursday, September 18 at 4:00 p.m. for a Colonial States Athletic Conference contest.
