CEDAR CREST BASKETBALL FALLS TO IMMACULATA IN CSAC OPENER
Immaculata, PA (December 7, 2009) – The Cedar Crest College basketball team’s five-game winning streak came to a hault with a 68-57 loss to Immaculata University on Monday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference action at Alumnae Hall.
Sophomore Lizzy Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin) posted a season-high 25 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Cedar Crest. Senior Kelly Oakes (Wilmington, DE/Delcastle) added seven points and 11 boards, while fellow senior Lakeema Jones (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) added nine points for the Falcons.
The Mighty Macs’ Chelsea McTigue scored a game-high 26 points to lead Immaculata, while Leah Kuczynski added 18 points in the win.
The first five minutes of the contest saw three ties and three lead changes between the Falcons and the Mighty Macs. Cedar Crest’s Sunderhaus scored at the 13:30 mark in the first half, cutting Immaculata’s lead, 12-11, but the Mighty Macs would take over from there. Immaculata did not allow the Falcons to score another basket until there was just over five minutes remaining in the first half of play. Immaculata took its lead into the locker room and went into halftime with a 35-29 lead.
Immaculata once again took control of the contest in the second half, going up by as much as 14 at the 7:39 mark. Cedar Crest continued to battle with Oakes hitting a trey to cut Immaculata’s lead to four, 61-57, with 2:44 to play. Immaculata’s defense would hold Cedar Crest scoreless over the final 2:44.
Cedar Crest falls to 5-2 overall (0-1 CSAC) on the season, while Immaculata improves to 5-2 overall (2-2 CSAC).
The Falcons will return to action on January 2, 2010 when they travel across the Lehigh Valley to Moravian College for the Starters Moravian Winter Classic. The game is slated for a 3:00 p.m. start.
