NATIONALLY RANKED MORAVIAN COLLEGE HANDS CEDAR CREST LOSS AT THE STARTERS MORAVIAN WINTER CLASSIC
Bethlehem, PA (January 2, 2010) – The No. 19 ranked Moravian College basketball team handed Cedar Crest College a 92-43 loss in non-league action at the Starters Moravian Winter Basketball Classic on Saturday afternoon at Johnston Hall.
Moravian jumped out to the early lead, forcing Cedar Crest to make six turnovers in the first five minutes of the contest. The Greyhounds went up, 24-5, with 12:45 remaining in the first half and wouldn’t look back the rest of the contest.
Moravian’s Alexandra Blair and Emily Smith both came off the bench to tally game-highs of 17 points each for the Greyhounds. Kirsty Stearns added 14 points for Moravian.
Sophomore Lizzy Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin), who is ranked fourth in the nation in rebounds per game, posted her fifth double-double of the season with a team-high 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Cedar Crest. Senior Lakeema Jones (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) was the only other Falcon in double figures with 10 points. Jones also added a game-high four steals in the loss.
Cedar Crest, which was averaging 66.6 points per game this season, was held to just 43 points in the contest.
Cedar Crest falls to 5-3 overall on the season, while No. 19 Moravian improves to 8-2 overall. The Falcons will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Ramapo College at 11:00 a.m. in the consolation game of the Starters Moravian Winter Classic.
