CEDAR CREST FALLS TO RAMAPO IN CONSOLATION GAME OF STARTERS MORAVIAN WINTER BASKETBALL CLASSIC
Bethlehem, PA (January 3, 2010) – Senior Kelly Oakes (Wilmington, DE/Delcastle) scored a season-high 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, but it would not be enough as the Cedar Crest College basketball team fell, 74-65, to Ramapo College in the Consolation game at the Starters Moravian Winter Basketball Classic on Sunday afternoon at Johnston Hall.
Ramapo jumped out to an early 13-6 lead at the 15:32 mark in the first half on a made three-pointer by Lindsey Gripenburg. Cedar Crest continued to battle and took a 24-23 lead with 7:06 remaining in the first half of play on a trey by sophomore Allison Horn (New Tripoli, Northwestern). This would be Cedar Crest’s last lead of the contest. Ramapo took a 34-31 lead into halftime.
Cedar Crest once again came out fighting and tied the contest for the sixth time of the game at the 14:54 mark on a three-pointer by senior Lakeema Jones (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) to put the score at 43-43. This would be the last tie of the contest. Cedar Crest could just not get a stop on the defensive side of the ball as Ramapo shot 47.1 percent from the floor in the second half.
Sophomore Lizzy Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin), who is ranked fourth in the nation in rebounds per game, was named to the All-Tournament Team after posting eight points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the loss for Cedar Crest. Horn added 13 points and seven boards in the loss for the Falcons.
Ramapo’s Meghan Reilly tallied a team-high 16 points in the win, while Faith Flannery added 13 points.
Cedar Crest falls to 5-4 overall on the season, while Ramapo improves to 5-6 overall. The Falcons will return to action Tuesday afternoon when they take on Bryn Mawr College at 6:00 p.m. at Lees Gymnasium in non-league play.
