SUNDERHAUS AND HORN LEAD CEDAR CREST IN WIN OVER BRYN MAWR

Allentown, PA (January 5, 2010) – Sophomores Lizzy Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin) and Allison Horn (New Tripoli, Northwestern) each tallied 18 points to lead Cedar Crest College basketball to a 76-65 victory over Bryn Mawr College in non-league action on Tuesday evening in Lees Gymnasium.

Sunderhaus, who is ranked fourth in the nation in rebounds per game, also grabbed 11 boards in the win for the Falcons.  Junior Leann Wallower (Havertown, PA/Haverford) added 12 points and five rebounds, while senior Kelly Oakes (Wilmington, DE/Delcastle) scored nine points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and dished out a game-high five assists.

Bryn Mawr was led by Shanika Bridges-King, who tallied a game-high 21 points for the Owls.  Lindsey Darvin added 19 points for the Owls, while Emilie Naccarato notched 17 points.

Cedar Crest and Bryn Mawr battled over the first 11:30 of the contest seeing six lead changes and the score tied on three separate occasions.  Cedar Crest finally got into a rhythm and went up by as much as 13 with 1:47 left in the first half.  The Falcons would take a 42-31 lead into halftime.

The Falcons controlled the entire second half, going up by 19 with just under seven minutes remaining in the second half of play.  Bryn Mawr would battle back to cut Cedar Crest’s lead to nine with one minute remaining, but it would not be enough as Horn hit key free throws down the stretch to secure the win for the Falcons.

Cedar Crest freshman Megan DeMutis (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic) scored her career-high, hitting two key three-pointers for six points on the night.

Cedar Crest improves to 6-4 overall on the season, while Bryn Mawr falls to 1-8 overall.  The Falcons will return to action Monday evening when they travel to Centenary College for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off in Colonial States Athletic Conference play.
