CEDAR CREST BASKETBALL IMPROVES TO 7-0 AT HOME IN WIN OVER ROSEMONT COLLEGE
Allentown, PA (January 18, 2010) – The Cedar Crest College basketball team remained perfect at home with a 72-61 victory over Rosemont College in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Monday evening in Lees Gymnasium.
This marks the first time in school history that a Cedar Crest team started the season 7-0 at home.
Cedar Crest was led by senior Kelly Oakes (Wilmington, DE/Delcastle) who played her best game of the year with a season-high 22 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists. She shot 8-of-13 from the field and 2-of-3 from three point range in 28 minutes of action.
Sophomore Lizzy Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin) added 13 points, nine boards, four steals and three assists in the win for the Falcons. Senior Lakeema Jones (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) continued her scoring hot streak by hitting for double figures in her fifth-straight game adding 15 points on the night.
Rosemont was led by freshman Ashley Montecchio who tallied 16 points and grabbed 10 boards. Heather Daneker also added 16 points in the loss for the Ravens.
Cedar Crest and Rosemont saw five lead changes and the score tied six times in the first half of play before the Falcons took command of the contest and went up, 35-28, at the half.
The Falcons then went on a run in the second half of play to go up by as much as 21 at the 14:05 mark. Rosemont would continue to battle, but Cedar Crest caused 19 turnovers by the Ravens, and also forced Rosemont to shoot just 29.6 percent from the field.
Cedar Crest shot 42.9 percent from the field and made 14 steals on the night.
Cedar Crest improves to 9-5 overall (2-2 CSAC) on the season, while Rosemont falls to 3-11 overall (1-6 CSAC). The Falcons will return to action on Thursday evening for a CSAC matchup against Marywood University at 7:00 p.m. in Lees Gymnasium.
