MARYWOOD ENDS CEDAR CREST BASKETBALL’S HOPE FOR A PLAYOFF RUN IN CSAC ACTION
Scranton, PA (February 15, 2010) – Senior Kelly Oakes (Wilmington, DE/Delcastle) left it all out on the floor as she posted a game-high 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Cedar Crest College basketball team, but it would not be enough as Marywood University used a big second half to hand the Falcons a 75-55 loss in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Monday evening in Insalaco Arena.
With this loss, Cedar Crest is officially knocked out of playoff contention.
Oakes notched her eighth double-double of the season with her 21 points and 14 boards. Sophomore Lizzy Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin) added her conference-leading 13th double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
Marywood University was led by Marielle Thorson, who tallied a team-high 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Amanda Lass added a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards for the Pacers.
Cedar Crest trailed 39-30 at the half, but could not get its shots to drop in the second half of play, shooting just 33.3 percent from the field. Marywood’s bench came up huge tonight to score 25 points for the Pacers.
Cedar Crest falls to 13-11 overall (7-7 CSAC), while Marywood improves to 16-6 overall (11-3 CSAC). The Falcons will travel to Gwynedd-Mercy College on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. in CSAC action.
