GWYNEDD-MERCY BASKETBALL DOWNS CEDAR CREST IN CSAC PLAY
Allentown, PA (February 18, 2010) – Senior Lakeema Jones (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) scored a game-high 27 points, but it was not enough as the Gwynedd-Mercy College basketball team handed Cedar Crest College a 92-72 loss in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Thursday evening at the Griffin Complex.
Senior Kelly Oakes (Wilmington, DE/Delcastle) notched her ninth double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 boards, while sophomore Lizzy Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin) added her conference-leading 14th double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Oakes needs just 12 rebounds to reach her 1,000th career rebound.
The Griffins’ were led by Jackie Dooley who tallied 26 points on the night, while teammate Kate Wisienswski added 16 points for Gwynedd.
Cedar Crest jumped out to the early lead, going up by five at the 18:21 mark in the first half of play, but Gwynedd regained the lead just over one minute later and would hold that lead for the remainder of the contest. Cedar Crest trailed by just four points at the half, but came out shooting cold in the second half of play and could not get the ball to drop. The Falcons shot just 3-for-16 (18.8 percent) from beyond the arc in the second half.
Cedar Crest lost its third-straight game to fall to 13-12 overall (7-8 CSAC), while Gwynedd improves to 16-7 overall (13-2 CSAC). The Falcons host Baptist Bible College tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. in Lees Gymnasium for their final contest of the season.
