CEDAR CREST FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO FIRST PLACE KEYSTONE IN OVERTIME

La Plume, PA (October 14, 2009) – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker to first place Keystone College in overtime on Wednesday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference play.

Kelsey Drozda got the Giants on the board first when she took a pass from Samantha Morgan just 2:22 into the contest to take the early 1-0 lead.

Cedar Crest held Keystone for the remainder of the first half to make a 1-0 contest at halftime.

Junior Jessica Macko (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills) scored an unassisted tally at the 50-minute mark in the second half to tie the contest, 1-1.

Cedar Crest then had several key opportunities to end the game in regulation, but could not convert on their four penalty corners late in the second half.

Keystone’s Morgan scored at the 81-minute mark in the overtime period exactly one minute after a controversial call that removed Cedar Crest sophomore Emily Seifert from the contest.  With Seifert’s removal, the Giants had a seven on six-person advantage.

Cedar Crest’s senior goalie Rachel Orlen (Robbinsville, NJ/Highstown) was outstanding in the cage, posting a game-high nine saves for the Falcons.

Keystone held a 14-9 advantage in shots, while holding a 21-11 advantage in penalty corners.

Cedar Crest falls to 4-10 overall (1-4 CSAC) and will host Rosemont College on Saturday, October 17th for an 11:00 a.m. CSAC matchup.
