CEDAR CREST FIELD HOCKEY HAS FOUR NAMED TO ALL-CSAC TEAM; LIPPERT NAMED CSAC COACH OF THE YEAR

Aston, PA (October 30, 2009) – Senior Rachel Orlen (Robbinsville, NJ/Highstown) and freshman Ashley Jennings (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) were selected to the Colonial States Athletic Conference Field Hockey First Team, while sophomore Emily Seifert (Reading, PA/Schuylkill Valley) was named to the Second Team and junior Eryn Ziegler (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown) was named to the Honorable Mention Team released by the conference office on Friday afternoon.

The All-CSAC Awards are voted on by the league’s head coaches.

In addition to the four All-Conference selections, head coach Marci Lippert was named the 2009 CSAC Coach of the Year and sophomore Tammy Gruzdis (Allentown, PA/Liberty) was named to the All-CSAC Sportsmanship team. 

Orlen, a first-time All-CSAC selection and a three-year team captain, ranks 13th in the nation with a .830 save percentage.  Orlen posted 137 saves this season with a 2.12 goals against average.  She also added two shutouts this season against Wells College and Wilson College.  Orlen made a season-high 28 saves in a double-overtime loss to Cabrini College.

Jennings, a two-time All-State player from Lehighton High School, was selected to the All-CSAC First Team in her rookie season at Cedar Crest.  Jennings started in all 17 games for the Falcons this season on defense.  She posted three goals, four assists, and two defensive saves on the season.  Jennings helped a defense that allowed a 4.13 goals against average in 2008 to a 2.12 goals against average in 2009.

Seifert, a 2008 All-CSAC Honorable Mention Team member and a team captain, started in all 17 games for Cedar Crest at the center midfield position.  She tallied two game-winning goals this season against Hood College and Wells College.  She also added two assists on the season.   

Ziegler, a 2007 and 2008 All-CSAC selection, was named to the All-Conference team for the third-straight season.  She posted at team-high three defensive saves on the season.  Ziegler also helped a defense that allowed a 4.13 goals against average in 2008 to a 2.12 goals against average in 2009.

Lippert was named the CSAC Coach of the Year in her third season as head coach at Cedar Crest.  She helped improve a team that went 0-16 with a 7.79 goal against average in 2007 improve to 5-12 overall with a 2.12 goals against average in 2009.  Cedar Crest improved from being outscored 96-5 in 2007 to 30-25 in 2009. 

This marks the most All-Conference selections that the Cedar Crest field hockey program has had in its history.
