CEDAR CREST FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO GWYNEDD IN CSAC OPENER


Allentown, PA (September 14, 2009) – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to  Gwynedd-Mercy College on Monday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.

Gwynedd Mercy’s Christine Hammit opened the scoring off of a pass from Kerri Boone at the 20-minute mark in the first half to take the early 1-0 lead.  The Griffins’ Dottie O’Neil then found the back of the cage with just over five minutes remaining in the first half to put Gwynedd up, 2-0, at the half.

Casey Dellostretto added a goal for the Griffins five minutes into the start of the second half to take a 3-0 lead.

Cedar Crest’s Jessica Sanchez (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) scored her first goal of the season when she took a pass from sophomore Emily Seifert (Reading, PA/Schuylkill Valley HS) with 22 minutes remaining in the second half to cut the lead, 3-1. 

Gwynedd answered with two more tallies from O’Neil and Dellostretto before the end of the second half of play. 

Senior goalie Rachel Orlen (Robbinsville, NJ/Highstown HS) stopped eight shots on the day for the Falcons.

Gwynedd held a 14-13 shot advantage, while also holding an 11-6 advantage in penalty corners. 

Cedar Crest falls to 1-4 overall (0-1 CSAC), while Gwynedd-Mercy improves to 3-2 overall (1-0 CSAC).  The Falcons will host Wilson College on Thursday, September 17th at 4:00 p.m. in non-league action.
