TOP-SEEDED NEUMANN FIELD HOCKEY HANDS CEDAR CREST 1-0 LOSS

Aston, PA (September 26, 2009) – The top-seeded Neumann University field hockey team handed Cedar Crest College a 1-0 loss in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Neumann’s Caitlin Donohue took a pass from Callie Emel at the 15:10 mark in the first half, but that is all the Knights would need for the win.

Cedar Crest came alive in the second half, posting six corners to Neumann’s two, but could not convert to tie the contest.  Freshman Ashley Jennings (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton), senior Brittany Fikes (Boothwyn, PA/Chichester), and junior Eryn Ziegler (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown) all posted key defensive saves for the Falcons.

Senior goalie Rachel Orlen (Robbinsville, NJ/Highstown HS) stopped 11 shots on the day for the Falcons, while Maggie Carpenter made six saves in the cage for the Knights.

Cedar Crest held an 11-9 advantage in penalty corners, while Neumann posted a 19-6 advantage in shots.

Cedar Crest falls to 2-6 overall (0-2 CSAC) and will travel to Cabrini College on Tuesday, September 29th for a 4:00 p.m. CSAC contest.
