DUKE ALL-AMERICAN NAMED CEDAR CREST COLLEGE HEAD LACROSSE COACH
Allentown, PA (November 25, 2008) – Former Duke University standout Lauren Gallagher Wray has been named Head Lacrosse Coach at Cedar Crest College, according to an announcement by Kristin Maile, Director of Athletics.
At Duke, Wray was a three-time All-American and was also named to the All-ACC Team (2001-2003). She was a team co-captain and a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award during her senior campaign in 2003. Wray, an attacker who finished her career with 193 points, still holds Blue Devil records and is sixth all-time for goals (140), sixth all-time for assists (53), and tied for seventh for games started (72). She also spent three years as a member of the U.S. Developmental Squad and was a member of the U.S.
Under-19 World Championship Team in 1999.
Wray, who graduated from Duke in 2004 with a degree in mechanical engineering and economics, was an assistant coach at nearby Division I Lafayette College (2007-2008), an undergraduate assistant at Duke (2003-2004), and is the founder and coach of Triumph Lacrosse Club in Bethlehem, PA.
“We’re thrilled to have a coach of Lauren’s caliber and we’re confident that she will energize our lacrosse program. She made an instant connection with our student-athletes and they are excited about her and the upcoming season,” Kristin Maile said.
Wray replaces Kyle Kauffman, who led the Falcons for two seasons (2007-2008), and inherits a team that went 2-14 a year ago.
The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team opens the 2009 season on March 5 when Ferrum College travels to Allentown, PA for a 4:00 PM contest.
