ALVERNIA LACROSSE HANDS CEDAR CREST 19-4 LOSS IN NON-LEAGUE PLAY


Reading, PA (April 2, 2009) – Sarah George had six goals and two assists to lead Alvernia University to a 19-4 win over Cedar Crest College in non-league lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon at the Soverign Bank Sports Park.

Alvernia jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before junior Kelly Oakes tallied a goal at the 24 minute mark to cut the Crusaders’ lead, 2-1.  Alvernia then scored eight unanswered goals to take a 10-1 lead with just over three minutes remaining in the first half.  Senior Thersia Ault then tallied a goal at the two minute mark for Cedar Crest to make it a 10-2 contest.  Alvernia would score three more goals before the end of the first half. 

The Crusaders scored six goals in the second half, while freshman Tara Fikes and sophomore Maureen Manning each posted one goal for the Falcons.

The Crusaders held a 31-17 advantage in groundballs and also edged Cedar Crest in draw controls, holding an 18-7 advantage.

Junior Devin Ursini posted 11 stops in the net for the Falcons, while also tallying a team-high four groundballs.

With the loss, Cedar Crest falls to 3-6 overall, while Alvernia improves to 7-2 overall. 

The Falcons will host the College of Notre Dame on Saturday, April 4th at 1:00 p.m. in a Colonial States Athletic Conference matchup.
