IMMACULATA EDGES LACROSSE IN CSAC PLAY
Allentown, PA (April 7, 2009) – Sophomore Rebecca Whitman scored six goals and had two assists to lead Immaculata University to a slim 9-8 victory over Cedar Crest College in Colonial States Athletic Conference play on a windy Tuesday afternoon.
Cedar Crest trailed Immaculata, 5-1, just before halftime, but the Falcons made a late first half surge, scoring three goals in the last two minutes to cut the lead, 5-4.
Immaculata went up, 9-5, with just over 20 minutes remaining in the contest, but Cedar Crest scored three unanswered goals to make it a 9-8 contest.
The Falcons would get several more opportunities before the end of regulation, but could not convert a goal.
Juniors Amanda Dombroski and Jesenia Holguin lead the Falcons with two goals each, while junior Brittany Symbol and freshman Tara Fikes each added one goal and one assist.
The Falcons controlled shot advantage in the contest, 27-20. Cedar Crest held a 35-32 advantage in groundballs, while also holding a 9-8 advantage in draw controls.
Junior Devin Ursini posted eight saves in the net for the Falcons, while Brittany Worthington made eight stops for the Mighty Macs.
Cedar Crest falls to 4-7 overall (1-5 CSAC), while Immaculata improves to 1-9 overall (1-5 CSAC). The Falcons next host Bryn Mawr College on Thursday, April 9 at 4:00 p.m. in non-league play.
