NEUMANN USES SECOND HALF RALLY TO DEFEAT CEDAR CREST LACROSSE IN CSAC PLAY
Drexel Hill, PA (April 18, 2009) – With the score locked 7-7 at halftime, Neumann College used a 5-0 run to open the second half and outlast Cedar Crest lacrosse in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action at Monsignor Bonner High School Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Tara Fikes opened the game’s scoring on a free position shot at 23:40, but Neumann’s Alex Bohen answered at 22:50 from an Adrienne McCrae feed to make it a 1-1 game. At 22:07, junior Amanda Dombroski scored on another Falcon free position, but Gabby D’Ambrosio would score back to back and Bohen would add another goal before junior Jesenia Holguin cut the Knights’ lead to just one from a Mackenzie Lee pass.
Tiffany Baker and Rachel DiCicco would score goals to make it a three-goal lead in favor of the Knights when junior Kelly Oakes scored twice and junior Brittany Symbol added a goal to even the score at six each. Bohen would add another Neumann goal at 2:54, but Oakes rounded out the scoring at 2:33 to send the game tied at seven at the half.
Five different Knights scored five goals to put the host up 12-7, but Fikes added an unassisted goal at 10:18 to make it a 12-8 game. The four-goal deficit would be as close as the Falcons could get in the second half, with DiCicco, D’Ambrosio, Thomspon and Bohen combining for the rest of Neumann’s six goals. Symbol would score for the Falcons again off a Maureen Manning pass, while Oakes would score her final goal on a free position shot at 1:59.
Oakes led the Falcons with four goals and an assist, three groundballs, four draw controls, and one caused turnover, while Dombroski added one goal, two draw controls, and picked up a team-high 4 groundballs.
With the loss, Cedar Crest falls to 4-9 overall, while Neumann improves to 6-9. The Falcons close out conference play with a 1-6 record, while Neumann improves to 5-2 and will await their seeding in CSAC playoffs next week. Cedar Crest will host Wilson College Tuesday, April 21 4:00pm.
