CEDAR CREST LACROSSE WINS BIG OVER WILSON COLLEGE
Allentown, PA (April 21, 2009) – Senior Thersia Ault scored three goals and added one assist to lead the Cedar Crest College lacrosse team to an 18-1 victory over Wilson College in non-conference action on a sunny Tuesday afternoon.
The game was all Cedar Crest as junior Mackenzie Lee started off the scoring just 13 seconds into the game to give the Falcons the early 1-0 lead. Junior Amanda Dombroski then added back-to-back goals to go up, 3-0 at the 25:38 mark. Sophomore Eryn Ziegler notched an unassisted tally just one minute later to take a 4-0 lead.
Juniors Brittany Symbol and Kelly Oakes and freshman Tara Fikes each scored for Cedar Crest over the next three minutes to make it a 7-0 contest.
Wilson’s Elizabeth Bush scored the lone goal of the game for the Phoenix at 18:34 in the first half to cut Cedar Crest’s lead, 7-1.
Junior Dah-ve Bell then tallied her first goal of the season on a pass from Ziegler at the 12 minute mark. Tara Fikes added another goal on a pass from Ault to give Cedar Crest a 9-1 lead with just over eight minutes remaining in the half. Bell notched her second goal of the contest with just three seconds remaining before halftime.
Freshman Emily Seifert tallied the first goal of her career three minutes into the start of the second half to make it a 12-1 contest. Junior Brittany Fikes and Ault tallied back-to-back goals, before Seifert added her second goal of the day on a pass from junior Courtney Thomas at the 20 minute mark.
Ault gave Cedar Crest a 16-1 lead at 18:20 on an unassisted tally, before sophomore Jen Decky scored the first goal of her collegiate career on a pass from Thomas with 13 minutes remaining. Junior Kelly Oakes took a pass from sophomore Maureen Manning with just three seconds remaining in the contest.
Oakes led Cedar Crest with a game-high seven groundballs and four draw controls. Junior Devin Ursini tallied five saves in the win.
The Falcons improve to 5-9 overall with the victory. Cedar Crest will host Moravian College on Thursday, April 23 at 4:00 p.m. in a non-league matchup.
