DOMBROSKI LEADS CEDAR CREST LACROSSE WITH SIX GOALS TO TOP FERRUM COLLEGE IN SEASON OPENER

Allentown, PA (March 5, 2009) – Junior Amanda Dombroski posted a career-high six goals to lead the Cedar Crest College lacrosse team to a 9-4 victory over Ferrum College (VA) on Thursday afternoon at Scotty Wood Stadium on the campus of Muhlenberg College. 

The Falcons took the early lead as Dombroski found the back of the net twice over a minute and a half span to give Cedar Crest a 2-0 lead at the 20:54 mark in the first half.  Sophomore Maureen Manning assisted on Dombroski’s first goal. 

Junior Jesenia Holguin then tallied her first goal of the season with 10:30 remaining in the first half to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead.  Freshman Tara Fikes posted the first goal of her collegiate career at the 7:26 mark to help the Falcons go up, 4-0. 

Ferrum’s Cara Jacobs scored with 5:17 remaining in the first half to cut Cedar Crest’s lead, 4-1.  Jen Pham then posted a goal one minute later for the visitors to cut the lead in half, 4-2, just before halftime. 

The second half was all Dombroski as she scored twice over the first four minutes of the second half.  Ferrum’s Kelsey Walters scored at the 22 minute mark to make it a 6-3 contest, but Fikes would answer less than 30 seconds later with her second collegiate goal.  Dombroski added another tally at the 20 minute mark before Jacobs scored Ferrum’s final goal of the contest with just over 14 minutes on the clock. 

Dombroski posted her sixth goal of the game with just under 10 minutes remaining to secure the victory for the Falcons. 

Junior Courtney Thomas notched a game-high five groundballs to lead Cedar Crest. 

Cedar Crest improves to 1-0 overall, while Ferrum falls to 0-1 on the season.  The Falcons will head to Washington, D.C. to take on Trinity College on Saturday, March 14 for a 12:00 p.m. non-league contest.
