CEDAR CREST LACROSSE REMAINS UNDEFEATED IN 15-1 VICTORY OVER TRINITY COLLEGE (D.C.)
Washington, D.C. (March 14, 2009) – Junior midfielder Amanda Dombroski, the current Colonial States Athletic Conference Player of the Week, scored a career-high seven goals to lead the Cedar Crest College lacrosse team to a 15-1 victory over Trinity College on Saturday afternoon.
Cedar Crest, which remains undefeated, was also led by freshman Tara Fikes and junior Jesenia Holguin who tallied two goals each. Juniors Kelly Oakes, Brittany Fikes, and Brittany Symbol and sophomore Eryn Ziegler each scored one goal in the win.
Dombroski scored three-straight goals to give Cedar Crest a 3-0 lead at the 19 minute mark in the first half. Symbol then took a pass from Oakes at 18:24 to make it a 4-0 contest. Dombroski added another tally before Holguin took a pass from Tara Fikes and made it 6-0 in favor of Cedar Crest at 16:54. Dombroski scored two more goals back-to-back with just over three minutes in the first half remaining. Holguin added her second goal of the contest with 23 seconds left until halftime. Dombroski ended the first half scoring off of a pass from Tara Fikes with four seconds remaining.
Brittany Fikes posted her first goal of the season on a free position shot just 2:24 into the start of the second half. Tara Fikes then added another goal on a free position shot just five minutes later to make it a 12-0 game. Ziegler and Oakes added a goal each before Tara Fikes finished the scoring for the Falcons at the 5:13 mark late in the second half.
Trinity’s lone goal came with 2:40 remaining in the contest.
Junior goalie Devin Ursini made two saves in the contest for the Falcons.
Cedar Crest, led by first-year head coach and former Duke All-American Lauren Gallagher Wray, is currently 2-0 overall on the season. The Falcons will take on Gwynedd-Mercy College in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Tuesday, March 17th at 4:00 p.m.
