LACROSSE FALLS TO GWYNEDD-MERCY IN CSAC OPENER


Allentown, PA (March 17, 2009) – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team dropped a 17-5 decision to league foe Gwynedd-Mercy College on Tuesday afternoon in both teams Colonial States Athletic Conference opener.

The contest opened with an early goal by Bridget Gibson to give Gwynedd the 1-0 lead just 48 seconds into the contest. Cedar Crest junior Amanda Dombroski, who currently leads the CSAC in scoring, tied the game, 1-1, at the 25 minute mark. 
Gwynedd-Mercy took over from there.  The Griffins scored 11-straight goals, including four by Colleen Dellostretto, to take a 12-1 lead at halftime.

The Griffins then scored three unanswered goals to open the second half of play and make it a 15-1 contest.  Cedar Crest’s Tara Fikes scored an unassisted goal at 18:14 for the Falcons, putting the score at 15-2.  Dellostretto scored again before Fikes took a pass from junior Kelly Oakes with 9:07 remaining in the contest.  Dombroski added her second goal of the day just over a minute later. Junior Brittany Symbol took a pass from Dombroski at the six minute mark to end the scoring for the Falcons, making it 16-5. Amanda Kirby ended the scoring for Gwynedd at the three minute mark.

Dellostretto led the Griffins with five goals and one assist on the day, while Shannon Carabba added two goals and three assists.    
Junior goalie Devin Ursini made nine saves in the contest for the Falcons, while Dombroski led the Falcons with two goals and one assist. 

Cedar Crest drops to 2-1 overall (0-1 CSAC) on the season, while Gwynedd-Mercy improves to 3-1 overall (1-0 CSAC).  The Falcons will host Penn State Abington in non-conference action on Thursday, March 19th at 4:00 p.m.
