CEDAR CREST COLLEGE LACROSSE TOPS PSU ABINGTON AND IMPROVES TO 3-1
Allentown, PA (March 19, 2009) – Seven different players scored as the Cedar Crest College lacrosse team beat PSU Abington16-6 in a non-conference match up on Thursday afternoon.
Junior Amanda Dombroski, who is currently ranked first in Division III for goals per game, scored just 10 seconds into the contest to give the Falcons the lead. Jenna Pugh from PSU Abington tied the game 1-1 two minutes later and gave the Nittany Lions a 2-1 lead at 25:49, but freshman Tara Fikes would tie the contest again three minutes later off a Kelly Oakes pass.
Oakes scored her own goal at 19:47 to put the Falcons up by one and Dombroski added another score to make it a 4-2 game. Jenna McCormick cut the lead to one at 15:02, Trang Le tied the game again at 13:56 and Pugh scored her third goal of the game at 11:23 for a 5-4 Nittany Lions lead. Fikes, Dombroksi, and junior Jesenia Holguin rounded out the scoring for the Falcons to give them the 7-5 lead at the half.
Cedar Crest commanded the second half, with Dombroski adding two more goals, bringing her season total to 20. Oakes, Fikes, junior Mackenzie Lee, and sophomore Erin Ziegler each added one goal in the half, while junior Brittany Symbol added three scores of her own. Senior Thersia Ault had two assists, while Oakes also had two assists and a team-high five groundballs on the day.
Dombroski had a game-high five goals, while Symbol and Fikes added three goals and one assist each in the contest. Oakes added two goals and two assists on the day.
With the win, Cedar Crest improves to 3-1 overall, while PSU Abington drops to 0-3. The Falcons will travel to Cabrini College Saturday, March 21 for a CSAC match-up at 3:30 p.m.
