SOFTBALL FALLS IN DOUBLE-HEADER TO GUILFORD COLLEGE
Orlando, FL (March 11, 2009) –The Cedar Crest College softball team fell, 3-0 and 7-2, to non-league opponent Guilford College on Wednesday afternoon at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex.
In the opener, senior Allison Holland took the mound for the Falcons, striking out three and walking none in six innings of work. Holland allowed six hits and three earned runs. Senior Sarah Campbell had the lone hit for Cedar Crest.
Guilford, which scored all three runs in the bottom of the second inning on six consecutive bunts, was led by pitcher Taryn Pulvermuller. Pulvermuller threw a one-hit shutout, allowing only Campbell’s hit in the top of the fourth inning.
In the nightcap, Guilford came out strong, posting two runs in the top of the first inning. Cedar Crest would hold the Quakers in the second and third inning, but Guilford would add on a run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Guilford added two more runs in the top of the seventh.
Cedar Crest’s two runs came in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run single by Holland, who took the loss on the mound for the Falcons. Holland allowed five earned runs on 12 hits and walked no one in the game.
Holland led the Falcons in the second game with two hits, while senior Alyssa Kabat, freshman Amy Nasinka, and Campbell each tallied one hit for Cedar Crest.
The Falcons fall to 0-4 overall on the season and will take on Mt. St. Mary’s at 4:30 p.m. today at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex.
