BAPTIST BIBLE SOFTBALL HANDS CEDAR CREST PAIR OF LOSSES
Clarks Summit, PA (April 17, 2009) – The Cedar Crest College softball team dropped a pair of Colonial States Athletic Conference games to league foe Baptist Bible College on a beautiful Friday afternoon.
The Falcons dropped game one, 6-5, in eight innings, and fell, 4-2, in the nightcap.
Cedar Crest led the Defenders, 5-1, going into the bottom of the sixth inning in game one, but could not hold off Baptist Bible’s rally. The Defenders scored one run in the bottom of the sixth and three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings. Baptist Bible’s Joy DeLeonardis doubled to drive in the winning run to cap the 6-5 comeback win.
The Falcons went ahead 1-0 in game two when freshman Sam Makey hit in senior Sarah Campbell on a single to center field. The Defenders would respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the third to tie the contest.
Baptist Bible then tallied three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead. Cedar Crest would score again in the top of the seventh inning when sophomore Tamera Gruzdis hit in sophomore Amy Stumpff on a grounder to third base.
Senior Allison Holland struck out six batters and walked just one in eight innings of work in game one. Holland also threw game two, striking out five and walking no batters in six innings of work.
Makey went 2-for-3 in game one to lead the Falcons, while also going 2-for-3 with one RBI in game two. Junior Rachel Orlen and Stumpff each went 2-for-3 in game two.
Cedar Crest falls to 5-15 overall and 4-10 in the CSAC, while Baptist Bible improves to 12-18 overall and 6-12 in the CSAC.
The Falcons will host the College of St. Elizabeth on Saturday, April 18th for a 1:00 p.m. non-league contest.
